ta[kh]zine is an independent editorial and research platform dedicated to the histories of political publishing and image-making in Morocco and the Maghreb.
The project explores archives of radical print culture through research, publishing, and public programming, working with printed matter, ephemera, personal collections, and oral histories. Rather than understanding archives as stable repositories, ta[kh]zine treats them as spaces of circulation, where fragmented materials can be gathered, reframed, and made public in new ways.
By engaging with publishing both as an object of research and as a contemporary practice, ta[kh]zine seeks to reactivate overlooked histories of political and cultural production while opening new ways of thinking about how knowledge is produced, shared, and collectively remembered.
تخزين هو مشروع مستقل يجمع بين البحث والنشر والبرمجة العامة، ويُعنى بتاريخ النشر السياسي والممارسات البصرية في المغرب وشمال أفريقيا.
يستكشف المشروع أرشيفات ثقافة الطباعة الراديكالية من خلال البحث، والنشر، والبرمجة العامة، بالاعتماد على المطبوعات، منها الهامشية العابرة، والأرشيفات الشخصية، والتاريخ الشفهي. وبدلًا من التعامل مع الأرشيف بوصفه مستودعًا ثابتًا للماضي، ينظر إليه تخزين باعتباره فضاءً للتداول، حيرة يمكن جمع المواد المتفرقة، وإعادة تأطيرها، و إتاحتها للجمهور بطرق جديدة.
ومن خلال مقاربة النشر بوصفه موضوعًا للبحث وممارسةً معاصرة في الوقت نفسه، يسعى تخزين إلى إعادة تفعيل تاريخٍ مهمَّش من الإنتاج السياسي والثقافي، وفتح آفاق جديدة للتفكير في كيفية إنتاج المعرفة وتداولها حفظها ضمن الذاكرة الجماعية.

ta[kh]zine takes its name from the Arabic word تخزين (takhzīn), derived from the root خ-ز-ن (kh-z-n): to store, keep, preserve, and collect. More than an act of storage, takhzīn describes the deliberate preservation of something for future retrieval, circulation, or reinterpretation.
From the same root emerge خِزانة (khizāna), a cabinet, repository, or archive; خازن (khāzin), a keeper or custodian; and مخزن (makhzan), a storehouse. Through centuries of exchange, makhzan travelled into European languages, becoming the French magasin, the Italian magazzino, and eventually the English magazine: a publication conceived as a repository of texts and images before it became a periodical.
ta[kh]zine inhabits this linguistic overlap between تخزين (takhzīn) and zine, positioning the work as both a storehouse and a site of circulation.
يستمدُّ منشور تخزين اسمه من الكلمة العربية "تخزين"، المشتقة من الجذر (خ-ز-ن)، والذي يعني: الصون، والجمع, والإبقاء في الحفظ. ولكن التخزين هنا يتجاوز مجرد فكرة المستودع؛ إذ يصف عملية صونٍ متعمدة لشيء ما بهدف استعادته، أو تداوله، أو إعادة قراءته وتفسيره في المستقبل.
ومن الجذر نفسه، تشتق كلمات أخرى مثل: "خِزانة" (وهي المودَع أو الأرشيف)، و "خازن" (وهي القيّم أو الحارس)، و "مخزن" (وهي المستودع). وعبر قرون من التبادل الثقافي، انتقلت كلمة "مخزن" إلى اللغات الأوروبية، لتصبح (magasin) في الفرنسية، و(magazzino) في الإيطالية، وتستقر أخيرًا في الإنجليزية ككلمة (magazine): وهي مطبوعةٌ رُئِيَ فيها في البداية مستودعٌ للنصوص والصور قبل أن تتحول إلى مجلة دورية.
من هذا المنطلق، يسكن منشور "تخزين" في هذه المساحة المشتركة والتقاطع اللغوي بين كلمة "تخزين" وكلمة "زين" (zine) وهي المجلات المستقلة، ليمثّل هذا العمل مستودعًا مأمونًا و وساحةً للتداول في آن واحد.

Radical publishing in Morocco has long existed under conditions of discontinuity. Newspapers disappeared, magazines ceased publication, archives remained dispersed across private collections and personal libraries, and many histories of image-making have never been systematically documented. ta[kh]zine responds to these conditions by creating the conditions through which dispersed materials can be encountered, read, discussed, and recirculated, allowing histories to remain open, incomplete, and continually reinterpreted.
Beyond its publications, ta[kh]zine takes the form of an evolving archive and collection, an independent reference library, and a public programme of talks, screenings, workshops, and exhibitions, each extending the project's editorial practice into new forms of public engagement.
Research, collecting, editing, translating, designing, and publishing are understood as parts of the same editorial practice: revealing the infrastructures that produce historical knowledge, exposing omissions, reorganizing evidence, creating new forms of circulation, and inviting collective participation in the construction of memory.
لقد ظل النشر الراديكالي في المغرب لفترة طويلة قائماً في ظل ظروف من عدم الاستمرارية؛ حيث اختفت الصحف، وتوقفت المجلات عن الصدور، وظلت الأرشيفات مشتتة بين المجموعات الخاصة والمكتبات الشخصية، كما أن الكثير من تواريخ الإنتاج البصري لم يتم توثيقها بشكل منهجي قط. وتأتي مبادرة تخزين كاستجابة لهذه الظروف من خلال خلق البيئة الملائمة التي تتيح التقاء هذه المواد المشتتة، ووقراءتها، ومناقشتها، وإعادة تداولها، مما يسمح للتاريخ بأن يظل مفتوحاً، وغير مكتمل، وقابلاً وإعادة التأويل باستمرار.
وبعيداً عن إصداراتها، تتخذ تخزين شكل أرشيف ومجموعة آخذة في التطور، ومكتبة مرجعية مستقلة، وبرنامج عام يشمل لقاءات، وعروضاً سينمائية، وورش عمل، ومعارض، حيث يساهم كل منها في تمديد الممارسة التحريرية للمشروع نحو أشكال جديدة من التفاعل الجماهيري.
إن البحث، والجمع الأرشيفي، والتحرير، والترجمة، والتصميم، والنشر تُفهم جميعها كأجزاء من ممارسة تحريرية واحدة: ممارسة تكشف عن البنى التحتية التي تنتج المعرفة التاريخية، وتسلط الضوء على الفراغات والمسكوت عنه، وتُعيد تنظيم الأدلة، وتخلق مسارات جديدة للتداول، وتدعو إلى المشاركة الجماعية في بناء الذاكرة.
ta[kh]zine is an independent and self-initiated project founded on an interest in publishing as a way of producing and reclaiming collective memory, engaging archives, and informal histories. the printed matter is produced independently in small editions — usually risograph-printed, assembled, and bound by hand — using materials available, and allowing the conditions of production to directly inform its form.
