The ta[kh]zine reference library is an independent reading room and research space dedicated to image-making, publishing and visual culture in Morocco and North Africa, situated alongside a wider collection spanning literature, art, design, and printed matter, with a particular focus on works by African, Asian, and Afro- and Asian-diasporic authors.

The collection brings together books that have informed and accompanied ta[kh]zine's editorial, research and design practice. Rather than aspiring to completeness, it reflects an evolving constellation of references that continues to shape the questions, methods and visual languages explored through the project. These are books that open doors to new worlds of imagination, aesthetics and everyday practices, bringing together the work of artists, writers, designers and thinkers whose ideas continue to inspire new ways of seeing, making and understanding.

The library is further activated through a public programme of artist talks, film screenings, workshops and reading sessions, creating opportunities to engage with the collection and the ideas it generates. It also grows through contributions from invited artists, designers, writers and researchers, who share books and printed matter that have shaped their own thinking and lived experience, allowing the collection to evolve through multiple perspectives.

While the books are not available for loan or purchase, a rotating selection of the collection will be accessible through a mobile physical library, extending the reading room into different places and making its resources available to wider publics.
